Frequently asked questions About Editing

How do I get started?

First, get a quote for your full manuscript or email Cara to discuss your project and your editing needs.

What can I expect from the editing process?

Editing isn’t always painless, but Cara prides herself on giving honest, constructive feedback you can use to be a better writer. She always looks for the positive attributes in your work, as well as the parts of your novel that need strengthening. Whether that's proof reading services or developmental editing, she considers the novel as a whole and takes your work as seriously as you do.

After developmental editing is complete, you will receive your Word document with editing changes in "track changes" mode, so you can have the option of incorporating them into your work or deleting them if you choose.  You also will receive a full critique. In it, she'll detail your strengths and your weaknesses, as well as our opinion on broader issues such as commercial viability, pace of the novel, character development and overall quality.

How long will editing take?

Typical edits take about three weeks, and depend on the number of manuscripts Cara is currently editing. Cara will let you know about how long the edits will take.

What if I'm not completely satisfied with the edits?

At Edit My Novel, your satisfaction is very important to Cara. Editorial opinions are subjective by nature. However, if at any time you are dissatisfied with the developmental editing or proof reading services at Edit My Novel, Cara will work with you until you are satisfied. We offer partial or full refunds, as well as re-edits. She will work with you to make sure you get the editing experience you seek. Her goal at Edit My Novel is to make your manuscript the best it can be.

Can my manuscript be refused?

Cara Lockwood and Edit My Novel do reserve the right to refuse submissions. Common reasons for refusal are obvious plagiarism in the text, lack of coherence or heavy use of a language other than English. If your manuscript is declined, you will be issued a complete refund within 24 hours of being notified of the refusal.

How can I be sure my work will be kept confidential?

Your story is yours alone to tell, and Edit My Novel will not use or share your work. A nondisclosure agreement is available upon request, which ensures your security and gives you peace of mind.
